Rant: I swore I'd never own a winch on my quad, then a mud hole near Danbury proved me wrong
I rode for 6 seasons without a winch and thought they were just extra weight for people who can't pick a good line. Last month my buddy and I hit a trail outside Danbury and I buried my rear axle in clay up past the rims, and we spent 2 hours with a come along and a strap that snapped twice. The come along slipped and cracked me in the knuckle, and by the time we got out it was dark and I was done. Two weeks later I bolted on a 2500 lb winch and used it 3 times in one weekend, once to pull a guy on a Sportsman out of the same kind of hole. I still think a lot of people run them just for looks, but I was wrong about them being dead weight. Anyone else wait way too long to add one, or am I the only stubborn one here?

A 2500 lb winch is cutting it close for a buried quad, most guys I know run 3500 or 4000 for that exact reason. Glad it pulled you out though, that clay near Danbury eats tires for breakfast.
