Took me 3 weekends to find a tiny leak in my Atlanta attic, not the 2 hours I planned
Kept finding damp spots on the ceiling in my 1950s ranch off Cheshire Bridge but no drip anywhere, so I crawled around up there with a $20 moisture meter checking every pipe and vent boot. Turned out one nail on a shingle was backing out and letting water run down a rafter, and I only caught it after the third rainstorm. Anyone else spend way longer than they thought chasing a leak that turned out to be something dumb?
Why is it always one dumb little thing? I had almost the same deal in my old house off Moreland, water showing up on the ceiling for weeks and I'm up there with a flashlight checking every joint. Finally found it was a cracked vent boot on a pipe I'd walked past like five times, and of course it only showed up when the wind blew rain sideways. That $20 moisture meter was the only reason I found it at all, way more useful than the $80 one I borrowed from my neighbor.
