Swore astrophotography was just for pros, but a crisp shot of the Pleiades from my backyard proved me wrong.

Getting that cluster clear with my basic setup made me see it's more about persistence than perfect gear.

That whole "gear doesn't matter" idea gets twisted sometimes. Using basic stuff actually teaches you the boring, vital skills like polar alignment the hard way. Pros with fancy rigs can almost skip that step, but you learn why each adjustment matters. That foundation makes any future upgrade way more powerful, not just more expensive.

Struggled for weeks with a cheap, wobbly mount before it clicked. Had to nail polar alignment by hand (which, yeah @murphy.sarah, is about as fun as watching paint dry). But forcing myself to do it made me really understand how the sky moves. Now when I use a fancy auto-guider, I actually know what it's fixing instead of just trusting magic. That basic pain made every upgrade after that feel earned, not just bought.

Right, because manually aligning stars is everyone's idea of a good time.
