Saturn photos always looked fake to me until I stacked my own

Used to think those sharp Saturn shots were all CGI. Then I tried stacking 500 frames from my cheap 8-inch dob last week. The detail that came through after aligning them manually was insane. Anybody else have that moment where processing clicked for you?

Wait, you manually aligned all 500 frames by hand? That's dedication, man. I used a free stacking program for my first try and it still blew my mind how much detail came out. Tbh, I think most of us have that fake look problem because the atmosphere wrecks the view so bad in single frames. Once you stack even just 50 frames, the planet snaps into focus and it feels like cheating. Honestly, it's the closest you can get to seeing what the Hubble sees from your own backyard.

Swapped over to stacking software myself after a few rough tries early on. PIPP and Autostakkert really helped me cut down the work and still pull out good detail from Jupiter and Saturn. I usually shoot maybe 200 frames and stack the sharpest 30-40 of them, that seems to be my sweet spot for keeping things fast and getting a clear result. The real game changer was learning how to adjust the histogram before stacking, makes the colors pop without looking fake. It still feels like magic when those bands and moons sharpen up.
