One harsh critique about my recipe blog made me rewrite everything
Last month someone commented on my 3 year old post about weeknight pasta and said the steps were too long and they gave up halfway. I got defensive at first, but then I reread it and they were right. I had 14 paragraphs before you even got to the sauce. So I cut it down to 6 steps, added a photo of the finished dish at the top, and moved the history story to the bottom. Traffic actually went up 20% in 2 weeks. Has anyone else gotten feedback that forced them to totally change their approach, even when it stung at first?

Man, my sister once told me my chili recipe tasted like "wet cardboard with regret" and I almost cried into the pot. But she was right, I had like 20 ingredients and a paragraph about my grandma's garden before the actual cooking part. I trimmed it down to the bare bones and now it's my most shared recipe on the whole site. Funny how the stuff that hurts to hear is usually the stuff that fixes the biggest problem. Kinda makes you wonder how many other bad habits are just waiting for a stranger to point them out.
