Tried using my truck winch to pull a stump and ended up ripping my bumper clean off

I hooked a chain around a 20 year old oak stump in a client's backyard in Austin and gave it a gentle pull only to hear the loudest crunch of metal followed by my $400 winch mount flying into the bushes has anyone else had something way too stubborn fight back like that?

...wait so you're telling me you just hooked a chain to an oak stump and gave it a "gentle pull" with a truck winch? I mean those things can yank a car out of a ditch easy, there's nothing gentle about them. I'm not saying the mount shouldn't have held up but maybe the real issue is you underestimated what kind of force you were putting on it. Or maybe it was just a cheap mount to begin with.
