Finally caught the dub in a rewatch of that old mecha show

I've been rewatching Gundam Wing for the first time since I was a kid and I finally noticed how often characters say 'baka' during the dramatic speeches - it's like every other line in the final arc. My buddy kept insisting it was just a few times, so I counted last night and got 14 instances across 3 episodes. Am I the only one who zeroes in on repeated phrases on rewatches and can't let it go?

14 'baka' in three episodes sounds about right for late 90s anime translation. Usually it's the scriptwriters filling dead air space between dramatic pauses. My guess is they kept it in because it made the characters sound more authentic to western audiences at the time.

I get what you're saying, but I always felt those "baka"s came off as more forced than authentic. Maybe it's just me but they pulled me right out of the scene every time.
