A friend told me my favorite anime is actually bad

We were at a con in Chicago last year, grabbing pizza. I was talking about how much I love the show 'Your Lie in April'. He just shook his head. Said it was 'emotional manipulation' and the characters were 'too sad to be real'. He called the music scenes 'pretty but pointless'. It really stuck with me. I've rewatched it twice since then. I still think he's wrong. The show makes me feel something real every time. But now I always wonder if I'm just falling for cheap tricks. Does anyone else have a show they love that people call fake or shallow?

Consider if it matters what your friend thinks. You're the one who feels something real when you watch it, so his opinion is just noise. Not everything needs to be picked apart to be good.

Ugh totally, @seanperry nailed it. My taste is already questionable enough, so I'm not letting anyone talk me out of loving a dumb movie.
