My nephew asked me why I still use a camera that doesn't show the picture right away

He was over at my place last weekend and saw my old Minolta X-700 on the table. He picked it up, looked at the back, and said, 'Where's the screen?' I told him you have to wait for the film to be developed. He just stared at it for a minute and said, 'That sounds broken.' It made me think about how the waiting, and the not knowing, is the whole point for me now. Do you ever have to explain the process to someone who's only ever used a phone?

Forget explaining the film itself. Try explaining why a character would stay on a bad phone call instead of just hanging up. Their whole world is instant cutoffs, so the tension feels fake. That's the real wall you hit.
