I noticed how much slower mail got between 1995 and 2010
Back in '95 a letter from my aunt in Pittsburgh would reach me in Chicago in two days flat, but by 2010 that same route took five or six days. Anyone else see this kind of slide with their own mail over a specific stretch of time?

You mention "two days flat" for Pittsburgh to Chicago... but that's probably only for first-class mail that got lucky with the plane schedules. Most regular letters back then traveled by truck and train, and the USPS actually lost a bunch of sorting centers around 2006 which is what really slowed things down. I lived in Illinois myself back then and watched my mail go from reliably 3 days to like 5 or 6 after they closed the big processing plant in Springfield.

Read something about how the 2008 recession made things even worse because they cut way more workers than they should have.
