Why does nobody talk about how much a $400 tankless water heater install can go wrong on a 1950s Albuquerque stucco house
I put off going tankless for 3 years because every plumber I called in the Heights quoted me $3,800 to $5,200, and I figured that was just the price of doing business in an old house. Last month I finally pulled the trigger with a guy out of Rio Rancho who did it for $1,900, and I was sure I was about to get scammed by some cut rate operation. Turns out the real problem was never the heater itself, it was the venting through that thick stucco and the fact that my old gas line was a quarter inch too small for the new unit's demand. He ran a new half inch line, cut the stucco clean, and even patched it so you cannot tell where the old vent came out. Three weeks in and my gas bill went from $78 to $41, which I honestly did not believe until I saw two cycles. Has anyone else had a low quote actually work out, or did I just get lucky with this one?
Lol my 1949 place in Nob Hill ate two "budget" plumber quotes before I gave up, so you basically won the lotto here. Stucco plus undersized gas line is the exact combo that turns a $400 heater into a second mortgage. Glad it worked out for once.
