The tile vs. hardwood debate in my kitchen ended with a puddle

I was remodeling my kitchen in my Albuquerque house last summer and had to pick between tile and hardwood flooring. I went with tile because I figured it'd hold up better with my dog and the dirt we track in from the yard. Well, I didn't think about how cold it gets here in the winter, so my feet are freezing every morning unless I wear slippers. Plus, I dropped a glass of water and the grout lines soaked it up like a sponge, now there's a weird stain I can't scrub out. Tile looks nice but I'm already regretting it after just 6 months. Anyone else deal with cold floors or staining issues with their kitchen tile?

Bought a heated rug off Amazon last fall and it was the best money I ever spent for my cold tile kitchen. Now I just stand on that thing while I'm making coffee and my feet don't go numb anymore. The grout staining thing is a nightmare too, I ended up sealing mine twice after a similar mess with some red wine. Seems like tile looks great until you actually live with it for a few months.

Did you get the kind that stays on a timer or does it just run all the time? I keep worrying mine will burn the house down if I forget to unplug it.
