The tile in my Nob Hill bathroom had a layer of old mastic that fought back.
What should have been a one-day demo turned into a three-day battle with a heat gun and a 4-inch scraper. Anyone have a better method for that pink adhesive from the 80s?

Saw a post on an old DIY forum about using a citrus based gel stripper for that exact pink stuff. You paint it on thick, cover it with plastic wrap overnight, and it turns into goo. Still a messy job but way less scraping. Your heat gun method is the usual advice but it sounds like a nightmare. That adhesive was made to survive a nuclear blast.

Honestly that "nuclear blast" line from casey943 is funny but I've been there. That citrus gel sounds like it just makes a different kind of mess, plus you're waiting overnight. A good heat gun gets it hot enough to peel up in long strips, no scraping. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather deal with the heat for an hour than sticky goo everywhere for a full day.
