That week last July my bathroom reno hit every wall possible

I was gutting my old shower and found the subfloor was completely rotted from a hidden leak. Then the tile supplier on Menaul said my order was delayed by two weeks. Has anyone else run into surprise structural damage mid project up here?

We had the exact same thing happen with our guest bath last fall. Once we tore out the rotten subfloor we found mold all the way up the back wall behind the shower tiles, so that whole thing had to come out too. Ended up costing an extra 3 grand and took another week and a half, but honestly it was worth it to know the leak was gone for good.

Man oh man I feel Your pain with that rot discovery! We had the EXACT same nightmare in our master bath last year. @olivia573 is totally right about it being worth it to find the leak, but let me tell you what finally worked for us. We ended up calling in a structural guy who specializes in old houses and he spotted the leak path before we even finished demo. He laid down this vapor barrier system and new treated plywood that cost less than 1k but saved us from having to jackhammer out the foundation. Honestly the BEST decision was stopping all work for 48 hours to get that professional assessment. It felt like we were losing time but that pause kept us from making things worse.
