Termite tenting on my Nob Hill house turned into a 5 day mess
We had the house tented on Monday for termites, and the crew from a local company said we only needed to be out for 2 nights. Well, they found old water damage behind the kitchen wall while pulling off trim, and now we are looking at a $3,200 repair bill plus 5 days in a motel off Central Ave. Has anyone here dealt with a tenting job that uncovered worse problems, and did your contractor work with you on the cost or just hand you a change order?
Tenting jobs are basically a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna find once that trim comes off. Water damage is the classic surprise too, so I'd bet half of Nob Hill has the same rotten wall hiding behind their cabinets. Next time make them do a walkthrough with a moisture meter before the tent goes up, way cheaper than finding out mid-job.
