Question about old wiring in a house near the university
I was helping a friend rewire a kitchen light in their 1940s place off Central last week and found the original cloth wrapped wire. It was so brittle it just crumbled when I touched it. Had to replace about 15 feet of it all the way back to the junction box. Anyone else run into this kind of surprise in an older Albuquerque home?

Yeah that cloth wire is a total nightmare. I mean it's wild how much of that stuff is still hiding in walls around the university area. Makes you wonder what else is just waiting to crumble.

Honestly I just replaced all of it when I found some in my place. That old cloth insulation is a serious fire hazard once it gets brittle. A full rewire was the only thing that gave me peace of mind.
