Overheard a tile guy at Lowe's say grout sealer is a total scam

I was grabbing some thinset at the Lowe's on Coors last Saturday and heard this tile pro telling a customer that grout sealer doesn't do anything for porcelain floors. He said it's just a way for companies to make money off homeowners. Made me think twice since I just spent $60 on a bottle of sealer for my kitchen backsplash reno. Has anyone here actually seen grout sealer prevent stains or is it all hype?

Well, I guess that $60 bottle is now my fancy decorative grout accessory, since apparently it's about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.

Honestly I gotta call BS on that tile guy. Grout sealer isn't magic but it's not a total scam either. @thompson.tyler I feel you on that $60 bottle but it's more about making cleanup easier than full proof protection. Ngl I've had sealed grout in my kitchen for like 5 years and it still wipes clean after spaghetti spills. Unsealed old grout in my bathroom though? It's a dark mess that never looks clean no matter how much I scrub. So yeah maybe it's not gonna stop a stain from grape juice sitting all day but it sure beats having porous grout that soaks up everything.
