Dropped $420 on a mini split for my garage off Eubank and it cut my electric bill by $60 a month
I got tired of my garage hitting 95 degrees in the summer so I had a mini split put in last April. Cost me $420 for the unit and install since my brother in law does HVAC on the side. My July electric bill came in $60 lower than last year even with the AC running harder, which I did not expect at all. The weird part is the garage stays at 78 now and I actually use it as a shop in the afternoons. Has anyone else in the northeast heights done this, and did you see the same drop or is my math off somewhere?

That $60 drop probably isn't from the mini split saving you money on the house AC, since a garage unit only cools the garage. What likely happened is your garage stopped baking and bleeding heat into the house through the shared wall and ceiling, so your main AC didn't have to work as hard. My neighbor off Wyoming did the same thing and saw about $40 come off, so your number isn't crazy.
