Changed my mind about using river rock for landscaping in the valley

I was set on using a big load of river rock for my yard near the Bosque until I talked to my neighbor, Carlos, last Tuesday. He showed me how the summer heat makes the rocks hold too much heat and kill the few plants that can grow there. Now I'm looking at crushed granite instead, which stays cooler and lets water through better. Anyone have a good place to get a few yards of it on the west side?

Oh man, the heat from river rock is no joke. My cousin in Arizona tried it around his mailbox and it basically created a tiny oven zone, fried everything. Crushed granite is a way better call for out here. I don't know a west side spot, but I'd check with the landscaping supply place off Coors.

How hot did the ground get around that mailbox?
