My neighbors by the airfield keep mistaking me for a pilot

I live right next to the small airport here... and when I chat with neighbors, they often think I'm a pilot because I work with aircraft. They'll ask about flying weather or if I've been to cool places... but I just fix the engines. It's a common mix-up that makes me smile... and it shows how separate our world is from theirs. I guess it's a chance to share what we really do.

Wore my old flight jacket to the store once and got a full passenger briefing from a nervous flyer. Makes you wonder what other jobs get this kind of instant respect, right?

That's a funny mix-up, but it's not really about respect. People just see the connection to planes and their brains jump to the most visible job. It's a reminder that most folks don't know much about how things actually work behind the scenes.
