Rant: My sister's holiday party totally changed how I do frozen fries

I was at her place in Denver last month and she threw a bag of store brand fries in her air fryer straight from the freezer, no oil at all. They came out way crispier than when I always spray mine with oil first. Has anyone else tried skipping the oil spray for frozen stuff?

My roommate in college did that with her air fryer too.

Wow, I totally thought you needed that oil spray for crispiness. I used to coat my fries in it, thinking it was the only way. After reading this, I tried skipping it with some frozen tater tots last night. They got so crunchy on the outside and stayed soft inside, way better than my old way. I feel like I've been wasting both oil and effort for years.
