This week my AI art tool kept giving me 6 fingered hands no matter what I did
I spent like 4 hours last Tuesday trying to get a normal hand out of Stable Diffusion for a character portrait. Tried every prompt tweak I could think of like "five fingers" and "anatomically correct hand" and it still gave me mutant hands. Finally I just in-painted the hand area 12 times using a different seed each time. Has anyone found a solid workaround for this or is it just a crapshoot every time?

Most training data has way more photos of hands in weird poses than perfectly flat ones facing the camera. The 6 finger thing probably comes from how AI blends different hand references together. Try generating hands in a specific action like holding a cup or pointing, that forces the model into a clear shape with fewer extra digits.

About that "blending different hand references" idea, I had a similar issue once and ended up telling the AI the hand was holding a book - came out perfect with five fingers on the first try. Funny how those small changes make all the difference.
