Found a perfect 2003 site about local ghost signs, then the image gallery broke

I was digging for old painted ads on buildings in my town and found this site called 'Brickwork Stories' from a local historian. It had photos and locations for over 50 signs. I clicked on the gallery page yesterday and every single image is just a red X now. The page is still there, but the pictures are gone. Has anyone else had a cool abandoned site fall apart right when you needed it?

My last great internet find was a 2002 Angelfire page for a local punk band, and it died while I was reading their tour diary.

Ugh that's the worst lol. I had the same thing happen with a site about old movie theaters. The images broke but the filenames were still in the page code. I right-clicked, viewed page source, and searched for '.jpg'. Found the old image paths and plugged them into the Wayback Machine. Got about half of them back that way. It's a long shot but maybe worth trying.
