Dropped $30 on a domain renewal for a site I haven't touched since 2012

I thought maybe id finally update my old fan page for a defunct TV show but nope, just wasted the cash. The site still loads but it's literally just a broken layout and some dead image links. Has anyone else accidentally kept paying for a dead site just out of weird nostalgia?

That "weird nostalgia" bit really hit me, because I read somewhere that our brains literally form stronger emotional attachments to stuff from our teenage years. Like there's a whole scientific reason we get all sentimental about dead web projects and old fandom stuff. I think the $30 is basically paying for a digital time capsule, you know? Even if the layout is broken, that site is still a snapshot of who you were in 2012. That's worth something even if it's just a personal museum of internet archaeology.

$30 is basically nothing in the grand scheme of things. You're acting like you lost a month's rent. People spend more than that on a single meal out and never think twice about it. That renewal probably came with a free year of email forwarding or some extra storage you're not even using. Plus you never know when you might get that random burst of motivation to actually fix the site up. I've been sitting on a dead blog since 2009 and I keep paying for it because one day I might want to remember what I was even thinking back then. The nostalgia alone is worth the pocket change, honestly.
