I had to pick between two old web hosts for my 90s site project

I'm rebuilding a fan site for a 90s cartoon, and I wanted that real old-school feel. The choice was between using a free host like GeoCities or paying for a basic plan on Angelfire. I went with GeoCities because I remembered the weird subdomains and banner ads from back then. It took me about three days to get the layout right with tables and a tiled background. The guestbook script I found still works, which is pretty cool. Has anyone else tried to host a new site on one of these old platforms recently?

Was it worth the hassle? That authentic GeoCities vibe is cool, but those old systems fight modern browsers so hard. You must have a lot of patience to get it working.

My buddy tried to put his band's page on Tripod last year. He gave up after an hour because the FTP kept timing out on modern connections. It seems like the old free hosts are barely hanging on by a thread.
