Question about those old Geocities webring scripts

Everyone says webrings were a great way to find sites, but I tried adding one to my 'Space Jam fan page' in 1997 and it was a total headache. The script from 'The Sci-Fi Webring' broke my guestbook and my page took 45 seconds to load on our 28.8k modem. I learned that sometimes the coolest looking web tools just weren't worth the trouble. Anyone else have a specific webring or counter that just wrecked their site?

Only two working links in the whole webring? That's just sad.

Oh man, that's rough. Those broken scripts were the worst (and the waiting, ugh). My friend's 'Star Trek' page got taken down by a bad guestbook counter once.

Forty-five seconds on a 28.8k modem... that's brutal. I had the 'Anime Web Turnpike' script do something similar. It would hang for half a minute, then just show a broken image icon. It totally killed the vibe of my 'Sailor Moon' shrine page. The worst part was it only linked to two other sites that were already down.
