Question about the Netscape trick that got me past my college's 1996 firewall
My school blocked Hotmail in 1996 so I set the browser's home page to a GeoCities proxy page a kid in my dorm built, and I want to know if anyone else had a workaround like that for locked down campus internet.
Wait, a GeoCities proxy page in 1996? I didn't even know GeoCities was a thing people were using like that back then, I thought it was mostly just personal homepages with spinning skull gifs. The fact that some kid in your dorm built a working proxy is kind of blowing my mind, that took some real know-how for that era. I remember people just passing around a dial-up number that wasn't blocked, which was way lazier than what he pulled off.
