Heard a rumor about a certain brand's control board and it was actually TRUE

For years I thought the stories about the 2018-2020 Whirlpool dishwasher boards failing were just techs blaming parts. Then I had three jobs in a row last month, all the same model, all with the exact same error code and a fried board. Has anyone else seen this pattern or know a good fix besides a full replacement?

Had to choose between a new band saw or a new grinder for the shop budget

Went with the grinder because our old one was from the 90s and kept overheating. It's been a month and the edge consistency is way better. Anyone else faced a similar equipment upgrade choice recently?

My new brush head snapped clean off inside a flue yesterday

It was a poly brush on a fiberglass rod, and the whole thing just gave way about 15 feet up a brick chimney in a 1920s house. I had to fish the pieces out with a magnet and a hook, which took almost an hour. What's the most reliable rod and brush combo you guys use for old, tight flues?

Overheard a contractor at Totem talking about unpermitted basement suites

I was grabbing some lumber at Totem on 99th last week and heard a guy telling his buddy he'd done three basement suites this year without pulling a single permit to 'save the client money'. He said the city only checks if someone complains. That made me think about how many places in Mill Woods or Clareview might have unsafe electrical or plumbing because someone cut corners. Has anyone actually had the city come check their reno after the fact?

My hands were shaking but I secured the pipeline clamp anyway

Was on a job yesterday replacing a section of underwater pipeline. The current picked up out of nowhere, and I could feel my heart racing. But I remembered my training and focused on one task at a time. I managed to get the new clamp in place and tightened it down. When I surfaced, the boss gave me a nod, which felt pretty good. It's those little moments that make all the practice worth it. Just wanted to share with folks who get it.
