Warning: I thought wet sanding was just extra work until it saved a blotchy stain job.
Seeing the stain even out perfectly after wet sanding changed my whole approach.

Totally get it! I once tried to fix a bad stain like @vera482 mentioned and ended up sanding right through the veneer.

Oh man, that's the worst feeling! It's like the wood just disappears under your fingers. Something I never see mentioned is how the lighting in your room can totally trick you. You think you're being gentle in that dim corner, but then you step back into the sunlight and see a huge shiny spot where the finish is gone. Makes you want to just throw a tablecloth over the whole thing and forget it ever happened.

Just learned this the hard way last month. My table looked like a toddler painted it before I tried wet sanding.
