Used to wipe my trowel clean every 10 minutes and now I just let the thinset crust up between jobs

I mean you say "let it crust up" but that crust actually creates a moisture barrier that can mess with your next mix. Idk, maybe it's just me but I've noticed the cured bits flake off and leave little voids under fresh thinset. Might be worth testing on a small area first before you commit fully.

Wait, do you scrape the chunks off before you mix a fresh batch or just stir them right in? @nancy154 is making a good point about those crusty flakes causing voids, I learned that one the hard way when a tiny piece of dried thinset left a bubble under my tile and now I got a little air pocket I gotta grout over. My trowel looks like a science experiment gone wrong by the end of the day, but hey, at least I'm saving 30 seconds of cleanup per round.
