Hot take: I bought a 'working' 1970s turntable at the Springfield flea market for $40 and it died after two spins.

My buddy says I should've haggled harder, but I think it's just the risk you take with old gear. Anyone have a good local repair person, or is it time to just cut my losses?

Yeah, I had a 70s Pioneer that did the same thing... turned out the old grease in the motor had turned to glue. Took it apart, cleaned out the old gunk with some isopropyl alcohol and re-greased it with white lithium. Spins like a dream now.

Check the belt and motor before you junk it.

I mean, is the belt and motor check really gonna save it? Feels like if it's gotten to the junk it stage, it's probably too far gone.
