I started drawing fence layouts and it fixed my alignment issues
I used to think sketching a fence layout was a waste of time. I would just measure and start digging holes. But last month, I did a job where the posts ended up uneven because I missed a slope in the yard. So I decided to always draw a quick map on paper first. Now I mark where each post goes and note any obstacles. It adds maybe ten minutes to my setup, but I haven't had to reposition a single post since. Jobs go faster and look better from the start.

Oh man, my buddy’s whole fence leaned before he tried that.

Totally get that (fences are sneaky like that). But leaning usually means the posts weren't set deep enough, not the planning part. @the_jana is right about plans, but for a different reason.

Planning on paper first saves so much hassle later (wish I'd done it sooner). @aaronburns' buddy's fence story is a classic case of why it matters.
