TIL about a fabric called 'mushroom leather' from a documentary I watched yesterday.
They showed how they grow it in a lab in Amsterdam, and it's supposed to be a real alternative to animal leather. It got me thinking about sustainable materials for my next collection. Has anyone here actually worked with a bio-fabric like that?

Oh man, mushroom leather! I got way too excited about it last year and tried to make a little wallet. Let's just say it did not hold up to my keys. Mason209 has a point about the durability. My test piece got weirdly brittle in a dry room, but then felt almost spongy on a humid day. It's a cool material, but in my experience, it still acts more like a thick, weird paper than a tough leather. I'd love to see what happens when they get that part figured out.

Yeah, I read an article that said the durability is still a bit of a question mark compared to traditional leather.
