Pro tip: don't buy cheap lining fabric online without a swatch first
I mean, I ordered 10 yards of 'silk touch' lining for a coat project because it was half the price of my usual stuff, idk maybe it's just me but it felt like plastic and frayed instantly. I'm out about $45 and have to start over. Has anyone found a good, affordable lining supplier that actually sends samples?

That's polyester, not silk touch.

Got burned on a cheap "silk" blend once. Now I just check the label for the fiber content before buying anything. A quick rub test helps too, real silk feels cool and smooth. What's your go-to way to spot the real thing?

Read somewhere that a lot of those cheap linings are actually recycled plastic bottles melted down, which explains the weird texture and static cling. If you want affordable real silk or rayon, sometimes Mood Fabrics has decent sample packs for a few bucks. I'd stick with a known brand like Robert Kaufman next time, their Bemberg lining is pricey but won't fall apart on you.
