I tried two ways to find my lost keys and one was way better

Yesterday, I spent 15 minutes frantically checking all the usual spots in my apartment in Springfield. Then I just sat on the couch for a minute and tried to retrace my steps from when I got home... and I remembered putting them on the bookshelf by the door. The calm, quiet thinking beat the panicked searching by a mile. Does anyone else have a weird trick that works when you lose something small?

Retracing steps is the only thing that works for me too. I used to tear the house apart looking for my phone while I was holding it, you know? Now I force myself to stop and just picture the last time I had it. @grace565 has a point about socks, because it's the same kind of mental trick. That quiet minute of thinking saves so much wasted energy. Panic just makes your brain shut down when you need it the most.
