Had to hot-wire an old Otis controller in a Denver hotel basement last Tuesday

The fire alarm system took out the main power and I spent 45 minutes tracing a short in the emergency stop circuit, so now I always carry a spare relay board just for those old DC units, has anyone else dealt with this mess in pre-1980s elevators?

Learned that lesson the hard way myself a few years back. Now I keep a whole bin of old Otis parts in the back of my truck, relays and contactors from scrapped units. Saves hours when something lets go on a Friday afternoon.

Tracing shorts in those old DC units is brutal, spare relay boards are the only way.
