Floating corners for years until I watched a 65 year old do it in 20 minutes
I used to cut my corner bead with tin snips and then screw it in place like most guys I knew. Took me about 45 minutes to do a room with outside corners and they never looked perfect. Then I worked a job with this old timer from Gary, Indiana who just used a drywall hammer to nail the bead on and bent the flaps by hand. He looked at my mess of a corner and asked why I was making it so complicated. That got me thinking about how much extra work I was doing for worse results. Now I just nail bead on, prefill before tape, and the finish is way cleaner with half the time. Anyone else have a basic step they overcomplicated for way too long?

Honestly, that "why am I making this so complicated" moment hits hard. It's wild how we build up these complicated routines in every part of life just because that's how we were taught, not because it works better.
