I thought that new polymer cutterhead teeth were just a gimmick for a year.

We put a set on our old 12-inch cutter suction dredge for a sand and gravel job up in Michigan, and they lasted three times longer than the steel ones before showing wear. The boss said 'they cut vibration by half' and I finally felt it myself on a long shift last week. Anyone run these on a bigger scale, like for a channel project?

Seriously, what about the noise reduction for the crew?

We ran poly teeth on a 24 inch cutter for a Corps of Engineers channel job down in Mobile Bay. The big win was less downtime for changes, maybe swapped them out twice over six months. You still need a good hardfacing program for the cutter ring itself, but the teeth just take the abuse. That vibration drop is real, my guys said it felt like running a newer machine.
