Hit 500 hours on my dredge pump last Tuesday
The meter rolled over during a routine sand job on the Mississippi and it just kinda hit me how many cycles that thing has been through. Anyone else keep a running log of their pump hours or just me?

Because I actually think logging pump hours is the smart play. I do the same thing with all my heavy equipment, not just the dredge. It helps me stay ahead on maintenance and spot patterns in wear before they become a problem. You can't just guess on these things when you're working the Mississippi, the river will tear up a pump faster than most anything else.

@dixon.daniel is spot on about the Mississippi eating pumps, I had a buddy who logged hours on a clamshell dredge and he swore by it until he lost the notebook overboard. Then he just started guessing and one morning the bucket arms locked up on him mid-swing, took two days to fish the whole mess out of the channel.
