Our office plotter died mid-set on a 200 page bid set last Tuesday

I was running a set of architectural plans for a school renovation in Dayton. Got to page 87 and the machine just stopped with a loud grinding noise. Turns out the carriage belt snapped and it was a 2015 model so nobody stocks parts anymore. Had to drive 45 minutes to a print shop that could finish the job on their big machine. Anyone else running ancient plotters that are one breakdown away from being useless?

Drive that 45 minute trip still cheaper than buying a new wide format plotter right now? Had a similar issue with my old HP and the repair quote was more than the machine was worth. What brand was it, cause ours was a Designjet and finding anyone who even remembers how to work on them is getting tough.

Nah man I GOTTA disagree on this one. That 45 minute trip is still a total steal compared to what a new wide format machine runs you these days. I had a Canon iPF that needed a new printhead and the local shop wanted damn near the price of a used car to fix it. So I drove an hour to this old timer who still keeps parts in his garage and he had me back up and running for the cost of a nice dinner out. Plus you get to talk shop with someone who actually UNDERSTANDS the old gear instead of some kid reading a script.
