PSA: I spent 3 hours trying to crop a photo and it still looked terrible

I was trying to make a funny screenshot of my cat looking grumpy, but I used the crop tool on my phone and somehow ended up with a tiny square that cut off half her face. It looked like a blurry alien eye instead of a cat. Has anyone else messed up a crop so bad it made the photo completely unrecognizable?

There's actually a bigger issue nobody's talking about with phone cropping tools and that's the automatic aspect ratio lock. I swear these apps just assume you want a standard rectangle but sometimes you need to freehand a weird shape. My friend tried to crop a reflection out of a lake photo and the app kept snapping back to 4:3 no matter what she did. It turned her beautiful sunset into a mess of water and sky with no shoreline. The real trick is to turn off all the auto settings and just use your fingers to pinch and drag. But honestly most people don't even know those options exist because they're buried in the settings menu.

That cropping thing is a trap for sure. My brother tried to crop a family photo for a Christmas card and ended up with just the dog's nose and my grandmother's ear. The worst part is when you realize you can't undo it and have to start all over from the original.
