The evolution of my 'office' from a hostel bunk to a proper co-living space

Back in 2018, I was working from a top bunk in a hostel in Chiang Mai with my laptop balanced on my knees. No AC, just a fan, and I'd have to duck into the bathroom for calls because the common room was too loud. Now I'm sitting in a dedicated co-living desk in Medellin with a proper monitor and noise cancelling headphones I bought after my third missed deadline. It really hit me last week when I realized I used to think a $20 monthly hostel fee was a steal, but now I pay $400 a month for a private room and desk space. The wifi here actually holds up during video calls, which is a luxury I never appreciated until I lost a client because my connection dropped in a coffee shop. Has anyone else noticed the shift from backpacker hostels to co-living spaces in the last 5 years?

Yeah I ditched hostels in 2019 and never looked back, way better for actual work.

Has anyone actually tried coworking spaces that double as hostels or is that just a marketing gimmick?
