Found a weird trick for email subject lines that boosted open rates by 30 percent
I run a small design freelancing side gig and my newsletter was getting like 15% opens on a good day. Tried all the usual stuff like personalization and shorter subject lines but nothing stuck. Then I tested putting the most important word in brackets at the start like [Freebie] or [Update] before the actual subject. Open rate jumped to 45% in two weeks with the same audience. Has anyone else tried bracket tricks or found something even weirder that worked better?

Oh man, this bracket trick is basically the only reason my emails don't get yeeted into the trash folder immediately. I tried it after my subject lines were basically just me begging people to open them like "please read this i promise its good" and somehow that didnt work. The bracket thing feels almost too simple but it really does trick your brain into thinking the email is important or time sensitive before you even read the full subject line. I wonder if it works because it looks like a label or a tag that your brain processes faster than normal words. Honestly at this point I just put [Cool Stuff] on everything and pretend Im not just making it up as I go.
