Overheard a graphic designer say vector art is dead and it got me thinking

I was waiting on a transmission fluid flush at a shop next to a coffee place, and two guys were arguing at the table next to me. One of them, mid-20s with a tablet, said "vector art is dead, nobody uses it for modern showcase work anymore." The other guy got real quiet and then pointed to a poster on the wall of a vintage car meet. That poster had clean vector lines for the car silhouette and text. I don't do digital art myself, but I spent 15 minutes looking at that poster while they kept talking. The guy who said it was dead couldn't explain why that poster worked so well. It made me wonder if people in the digital art scene just get caught up in trends and forget what actually looks good. Has anyone else noticed a tool or style people write off but still shows up in the best work?

Isn't vector art basically the backbone of most clean logos and signage you see everyday? I see it everywhere from billboards to app icons, so it's definitely not dead. Maybe it's just not trendy on social media anymore, but it clearly still gets real work done.
