My dad's feedback on my digital portraits clicked when we dug out old family photos.

Never got old photos until @angela_knight mentioned that light. Totally changed my digital stuff.

That point about "light we forget over time" is so true, like @angela_knight said. Seeing those old photos showed me how much softer and more natural the shadows were on faces. It made my digital stuff look way too harsh and perfect before.

Dig into what exactly from the old photos made your dad's feedback click. From what I've seen, old pictures can show faces or light we forget over time. Did comparing your digital work to those photos point out something specific, like how you set things up or the feeling it gives? I've noticed family comments often make more sense with visual hints from the past. What caught you off guard the most when you saw them side by side?
