Update: Tinkering with an old mechanical injector pump today made me miss the straightforward fixes.
I mean, some folks say the new computer stuff is better for power and fuel, but others think the old gear was just more reliable and easier to work on, so what's your vote?

Still, half the fun was figuring out those old pumps. @wrenfisher isn't wrong, but new stuff breaks in new ways, that's all.

In my experience, those old pumps were easier to fix because you could see how they worked. New computer stuff hides the problems behind codes and needs special tools to read. That's why I miss the hands-on approach, even if the new tech has its perks.

Yeah, you learn to keep a cheap code reader in your glove box. It's not a perfect fix, but it gets you past the basic error lights so you can at least drive it to a real mechanic. Saves a lot of guesswork and tow truck calls.
