I tried using a 2005 flip phone for a whole week and nearly lost my mind
I pulled my old Motorola Razr out of a drawer last month and swapped my SIM card in just to see if I could survive without a smartphone. Turns out T9 texting takes forever, Google Maps just shows a blank screen, and I had to print MapQuest directions for a trip to the grocery store. Has anyone else ever tried going back to an old device for fun and immediately regretted it?

Oh man, this takes me back! I tried something similar a few years ago with an old Nokia brick phone I found at a thrift store. I thought it'd be fun and nostalgic, but after three days I was ready to throw it out the window. The worst part was trying to coordinate meeting up with friends. I kept missing texts because there's no notification preview, and I'd have to open the phone and wait for it to load just to see if anyone replied. By day four I gave up and went back to my smartphone. I honestly don't know how we survived with those things back in the day!

I get what you're saying, but is it really that serious? People act like not having a smartphone for a few days is some kind of survival test. We all made it work back then, and honestly, I kind of miss the slower pace. No constant buzzing or feeling like you have to answer every message right away. Maybe we just forgot how to be patient and actually commit to plans without texting someone every five minutes.

Actually I'm with the original poster on this one. @rivera.susan I hear you but I think giving up on it after four days is missing the whole point. Going back to an old device is supposed to make you appreciate the conveniences we have now, not prove you can live without them forever. I tried a similar experiment with an old Blackberry and by day two I was tapping my foot at a bus stop for 25 minutes because I couldn't look up the schedule. Smartphones made life easier for a reason and pretending otherwise is just nostalgia talking.
