Critique on my mall photos changed how I frame everything
Someone on here said my photos looked like "empty hallways" instead of telling a story, so now I always include a weird detail like a single abandoned kiosk or a faded sign. Has anyone else gotten feedback that completely shifted their approach to documenting dead malls?

actually i gotta disagree hard on this one. putting a random kiosk or sign in every shot feels like cheating to me. the whole point of dead mall photography is capturing the emptiness itself, not forcing some "weird detail" to make it look interesting. when you always include that one abandoned thing, you're just following a formula instead of actually seeing the space. the best photos ive seen of dead malls are the ones that let the silence and the boring hallways speak for themselves. you dont need a prop to make it compelling, sometimes the most boring hallway tells the best story if you just let it be boring.

the most boring hallway tells the best story if you just let it be boring" - come on, it's not that deep. it's just pictures of old malls. i don't think throwing in an abandoned hot dog cart or whatever ruins the whole artistic vision. half the time people are just walking through taking snapshots for instagram, not making a statement about consumerism. you're acting like this is some sacred form of photography. it's really not that serious.
