Question about a custom print job that went wrong on a textured surface

I had a client last week who wanted a detailed logo printed on a rough canvas tote bag, and the printer just couldn't get the fine lines right, it all came out blurry and smeared. I think everyone says you can print anything on any material, but that's just not true from my experience. Has anyone else had a print fail on a specific fabric or surface and found a good workaround?

I always thought that was just how things worked, but you're totally right. It's a pretty wild expectation when you stop and look at it.
