Heads up about the custom print shop on Maple Street

I stopped by that new print place on Maple Street last Friday to get some flyers done. The guy running it was super nice, but their color matching was way off on my sample. I wanted a specific blue for a logo, and what came out looked more like a faded purple. He said their monitor calibration was 'a work in progress.' Has anyone else had color issues with a new shop before they get their systems dialed in?

So their color calibration is a work in progress, huh? Sounds like their printer just picks colors based on its mood. Maybe next time it'll give you sunshine yellow instead of black and white. Gotta love paying for a surprise.

Yeah, I saw a review online where someone ordered basic flyers and got neon green text on a hot pink background. Looked like a 90s rave flyer, not a corporate event. @quinn377 is right, it's a total gamble. My cousin got wedding invites where the "soft ivory" was more like a sickly beige. They had to eat the cost and reprint somewhere else. You're basically funding their color experiments.

Man I feel that pain lol. If you're stuck using them, here's what actually works: download their ICC profile and run your design through a soft proof before you hit print. I had to learn the hard way after ordering banners that came out looking like faded construction paper. Also, stick to CMYK values from their own color chart not what you see on your monitor. And for the love of god never choose their "economy" paper option because it makes colors look washed out and dull like someone left them in the sun for a week.
